The international freediving federation, AIDA International, has announced the voting for the new presidency has been completed and for the first time in it’s 23 year history has announced that a non-European Woman President has been elected.
Carla Hanson, previously the AIDA Secretary and a well loved fixture at AIDA major competitions, has been voted in with 21 out of 28 votes from the general assembly of the organization.
In the same vote the Vice President – Mario Zuzic, Education Officer – Jean-Pol Francois and Technical Officer – Antero Joki where also ratified.
Carla had this to say on the AIDA International Facebook Group:
Thanks to all of you for taking the time and making the effort to participate in the recent vote. We are very honored to be chosen to represent all of you in the board offices of AIDA International.
We owe a huge thanks to Kimmo Lahtinen and Robert King for the many years of hard work and immense strides which were made during their tenure. The list of accomplishments is too long to include everything but here are a few : investigating the embezzlement and then making rules changes to prevent any future impropriety, overhaul of the comp. rules and judge IOP, improved communications with website, facebook, newsletters, live-reporting from major competitions, safety changes and research funding following incidents with Nicholas Mevoli and other squeeze-related injuries, implementing EOS, JOS, CARS, and the competition ranking , new education materials and the upcoming brand new website!
We are in the process of compiling a list for our priorities for 2016. We would like to ask you to send us your requests and ideas, and let us know if would like to help us with projects. We are open to all and any ideas and need your creativity to advance Aida and our sport.
Also, the secretary position will be open in January and we will be seeking candidates. The secretary works with the nationals and communications. I must add, though, as Board members, we all contribute in many areas and assist where and when needed; there are no job title boundaries or exclusions.
We are very excited about the upcoming year and look forward to hear from you in 2016!
Congratulations to all the new 2016 AIDA International Board.
