World Champion Spearfisher Joseba Kerejeta Passes Away

World Champion spearfisher Joseba Kerejeta tragically passed away while spearfishing on Friday.

Kerejeta was born in 1968 in Durango, Spain. A firefighter by profession, he won the world spearfishing title in Venezuela in 2008. He also won a spearfishing championship in Spain in 2006.

Kerejeta was scheduled to give a talk at the Blue Wild Expo on Sunday at 4:20 p.m. titled “A Spearfishing Way Of Life,” and expo organizer Sheri Daye told DeeperBlue.com that that time slot would be used to show a video that he would have shown anyway which celebrated his life.

DeeperBlue.com extends our heartfelt condolences to Jose’s family and friends.

Updated Apr 23: Corrected Joseba’s birth country.
