Formula 3 Freediving – Underwater Racing

Performance Freediving International (PFI) have launched their website for Formula 3 Freediving (F3F), team based underwater scooter racing whilst freediving.

As first announced whilst at DEMA this year, PFI are running a team based underwater scooter competition – called the F3F Cayman Grand Prix, between 15th – 21st May 2010 in the Cayman Islands.  Renowed film-maker Bob Talbot (who directed the Freediving IMAX movie OceanMen) is recruited to film the event.

This is an exciting development in competitive underwater sports involving freediving.  Whilst outside the realm of what traditionally Freediving is known for – it will certainly be an exciting spectator sport.  If sucessful the event could be syndicated to mutliple locations around the world, much in the way motorsport (such as Formula 1) does above water.

We keep our eyes peeled on this exciting development.
