The dates for Florida’s Lower Keys Underwater Music Festival have been announced.
The event will be taking place on Saturday July 7th, 2018 from 10:00 to 14:00 at Looe Key Reef which lies about 6 miles/10 km south of Big Pine Key. As usual, the event is to promote the protection of Florida’s coral reefs.
This year’s festival is staged by US1 104.1 FM and the choice of music is designed to enhance the experience of divers exploring the Keys’ reefs. Music will be pumped underwater via Lubell Labs Speakers suspended from boats above the reef. According to Bill Becker, the festival co-founder:
“The Underwater Music Festival is a way to celebrate the coral reef, and we celebrate it by looking for a balance between protection of the reef and public enjoyment. The more people realize what’s down there and enjoy it, the more they’re likely to protect it.”
In addition to the festival itself, there will be a pre-festival party on Friday July 6, 2018 at 18:00. The event will be held at the Tiki Bar at Looe Key Reef Resort. To take part in the festival you can book places on some of the boats organized by dive operators, or you can launch your own boat from marinas and public ramps.
