Performance Freediving Team Members to attempt World Records

Performance Freediving Team Members Mandy-Rae Cruickshank and Martin Stepanek have registered to make world record attempts May 24th to 26th,2002 – which conincides with the CAFA Nationals being held in Vancouver , B.C. – Canada Mandy is training to make an attempt on the women’s static apnea world record held by Karoline Meyer Dal Toe of Brazil at 6:13. Mandy will have to break the record by 2 seconds meaning she needs a minimum time of 6:15. Karoline is one of the worlds best freediving athletes and has held this record since July of 1999 at 6:02. She then reset it again in June of 2001 at 6:13 in Miami with Mandy and Martin in attendance to show their support.

Martin will be attempting both dynamic apnea world records, with and without fins, held by Herbert Nitsch of Austria. Martin needs a minimum distance of 182m with fins and 135m without. Herbert is currently the world most accomplished interdisciplinary freediving athlete having achieved many records in both dynamic disciplines and is also the constant ballast record holder at 86 meters / 282 feet.

Anti-doping tests will be performed by the INRS – Institut Armand-Frappier-Sante in Quebec or the Universite Louis Pasteur in France.
