Boca Grande, Florida USA – July 1 The third shark attack in a week occured in Florida waters today as an Austrian tourist was bitten in chest-deep water near Boca Grande, on Florida’s Gulf Coast. The wounds were described as moderate.
Earlier in the week, a boy lost his leg to a shark a fews days after a young girl was killed in a shark attack.
In another incident, a casual fisherman caught a 450-lb shark only a few hundred meters off one of North Miami’s most popular beaches, Haulover. A local resident, asked about the recent series of shark incidents, pointed out that state and Federal laws banning commercial fishing for shark within a three -mile distance from Florida’s shores had, in effect, created a shark sanctuary in the very waters most used for recreational purposes by residents and tourists.
