Professional Spearfishing League Begins This Weekend

The first in a series of professional spearfishing tournaments off the Florida coast begins this coming weekend.

The Florida Skin Divers Association recently announced that several tournaments throughout Florida would be combined into the “Super-Series Spearfishing League,” complete with standings and prize money.

FSDA Series Chairman Cortland Hunt told Outdoors360:

“Spearfishing is an incredibly extreme-sport with top athletes that deserved to be recognized like NASCAR or Bassmaster.”

Competitors will be able to participate either as individuals or as part of a team. Both freedivers and scuba divers will be allowed to compete.

The current planned events are:

  • Tampa Bay TBSC: April 8-10, St. Pete, FL
  • FSDA Southern Open: June 3-5 St. Pete, FL
  • Gene Cloud Memorial: July 8-9 Bradenton, FL
  • Suncoast Challenge: Sept. 23-25 Sarasota, FL

More events will be added later.
