What’s New at Hammerhead? Color!

-

Who says you can’t color coordinate your dive gear? Certainly not Kevin Sakuda of Hammerhead.

In fact, the New Product Showcase in the center of the DEMA Show 2017 features Hammerhead’s newest freediving fins and the industry’s first successfully hydro-dipped mask and snorkel. Kevin hijacked me for live Instagram and FacebookLive posts at the showcase.

Available in patriotic red, white, and blue these carbon fiber fins can be completely customized. The new colored foot pockets, new colored fin rails, new colorful camouflage pattern, and of course, the stiffness and material of the fin blades can all be interchanged for a look and feel that is uniquely you. You can customize not only your colors, but the fin pockets and blades can be customized specifically to how much profile you need to push through. Blades are available in plastic, fiberglass, carbon fiber, and hand-laid T700 carbon fiber.

Also new this year is their smaller foot pocket, size Extra Extra Small (US size 2-3). This adds to their impressive line with sizes up to 12-13. Foot pockets retail for US$149/~128 Euros, and carbon fiber blades are $249/~214 Euros.

Fin colors also include black and what those in the know call “yum yum yellow.” High visibility colors like white and yellow are intended more for controlled environments and may be a bit too visible for use in areas with high concentrations of predators.

Retailing at $59.99/~51.66 Euros, the mask and snorkel combo is available in blue, black, green, or brown camo. Like all of Hammerhead’s masks, the ultra-low-volume freediving mask comes with the company’s LIO Glass (low iron oxide glass) that provide 15% more light than standard tempered lenses. In a side-by-side comparison, LIO lenses allow you to see 15% better — perhaps seeing that elusive wahoo or predator just on the outskirts of your visibility. That edge may be the difference between a good day and a great day spearfishing.

Hammerhead, now the largest freediving and spearfishing brand, is also focusing on their Apnea brand, which is intended to be a great value and economy in a freedive-specific brand. See their website for a complete product list.
